Methodology
How RiftRank calculates meta data, tier lists, pricing, and statistics. Transparency is a core product value.
Data Sources
RiftRank aggregates data from multiple sources, each with a different trust level:
Level A — Verified Tournament Data Official tournament results that have been verified by RiftRank staff or trusted tournament organizers. This is our highest-confidence data and forms the foundation of all meta analysis.
Level B — Community Tournament Data Results submitted by community tournament organizers. These are reviewed before being included in meta calculations.
Level C — User-Submitted Decks Public decks created by RiftRank users. These contribute to play rate statistics but are weighted lower than tournament-proven lists.
Card & Price Data Card data is sourced directly from the official Riftbound card gallery. Pricing data comes from TCGplayer via daily automated scans.
Meta Analysis & Tier Lists
Play Rate Play rate measures how frequently a legend appears across verified tournament results. It is calculated as: (number of tournament entries using this legend) / (total tournament entries) × 100.
Minimum Sample Size We require at least 5 tournament appearances before displaying play rate data. Legends with fewer appearances show "Insufficient data" rather than potentially misleading statistics.
Recency Weighting Recent tournaments are weighted more heavily than older ones. Data from the last 14 days receives full weight, 15–30 days receives 75% weight, and data older than 30 days receives 50% weight. This ensures the meta reflects current trends.
Tier Assignment Tiers are assigned based on a combination of play rate and tournament performance (top-cut conversion). We do not manually curate tier placements — they are computed from the data.
Metagame Filtering Meta data is filtered by the latest set/metagame with tournament data. When a new set releases, the meta report automatically transitions once tournaments for that set are verified.
Pricing & Market Data
Price Source All card prices come from TCGplayer, the largest marketplace for Riftbound cards. Prices reflect the lowest available listing at the time of our daily scan.
Update Frequency Prices are updated daily via an automated cron job that runs at 9:00 AM UTC. The "last updated" timestamp on market pages reflects the most recent successful scan.
Price Change Calculations - 24h change: Compares today's price to the most recent previous data point - 7-day change: Compares today's price to the data point from ~7 days ago - Market movers: Cards are ranked by percentage or dollar change, depending on the selected view
Deck Pricing Total deck cost is the sum of all individual card prices (legend + champion + main deck + runes + battlefields). Prices may be missing for some cards if they are not yet listed on TCGplayer.
Affiliate Disclosure Buy links on RiftRank use TCGplayer affiliate tracking. This means RiftRank earns a small commission on purchases made through our links. This does not affect card rankings, tier lists, or any analytical data.
Collection & Deck Completion
Collection Tracking Users can manually track which cards they own. Collection data is private and only visible to the account owner.
Deck Completion When viewing a deck, logged-in users can see which cards they own and which are missing. The "cost to complete" estimate uses current TCGplayer prices for missing cards only.
Set Completion Set completion percentage counts unique base cards owned out of the total cards in the set. Variant cards (alt-art, showcase, signature) are tracked separately and do not affect base completion.
Update Cadence
| Data Type | Update Frequency |
|---|---|
| Card database | Synced from official gallery on demand |
| Card prices | Daily at 9:00 AM UTC |
| Tournament results | Within 24–48 hours of event completion |
| Meta calculations | Recomputed on each page load from latest data |
| Landing page stats | Cached and refreshed hourly |
All timestamps shown on the site reflect UTC time.
Known Limitations
No Win Rate Data (Yet) We currently do not have match-level outcome data. Play rate and top-cut conversion are the primary competitive metrics. Win rate calculations require either official match reporting or community match logging, which we plan to add in the future.
Regional Coverage Tournament coverage depends on community submissions. Some regions may have more comprehensive data than others.
Price Gaps Some cards (especially new releases or low-supply variants) may not have TCGplayer listings yet. These show "—" instead of a price.
Sample Sizes Small sample sizes can produce misleading statistics. We display sample sizes alongside metrics and suppress data below minimum thresholds to maintain accuracy.
